You’re having a baby! Congratulations! Whether this is your first baby or your fifth, your pregnancy is so incredibly special, and your Philadelphia maternity photos will help that beauty shine. I know that it can be difficult to cherish every moment of pregnancy, but the goal with maternity photos is to give you some time to look and feel your best, while showcasing the strength and beauty that comes with growing a tiny human. Use these 5 tips to make the most of your maternity session!
For your photos, we want you to look like yourself, but getting your hair and makeup done will help your confidence shine throughout your session. There is something to be said about the skills and knowledge of a professional hair and makeup artist, and not just for increasing your confidence. They are able to style you in a way that looks natural, and not too heavy for the camera. There are many makeup styles, but not all of them are great for photos. We want your natural beauty to be front and center for your maternity session!
As a mama, I understand how difficult it can be to make time for yourself and your partner, because, there just aren’t enough hours in the day for all that we have to do. Often, we put our own needs on the back-burner. That is why, you should use your maternity photo session as a reason to put yourself first and focus on your own self care! Take the day off, go to lunch, get a mani/pedi, and come to your session refreshed, relaxed, and feeling great! We’re all told that you can’t pour from an empty cup, and this is true for your photo sessions as well.
Our clothing choices play a huge role in the overall success and style of photos. This is where I come in! Before your session, I will show you options from the client closet, or help you select something new. As a photographer, a huge part of my job is helping you know what will look great in photos. Two rules of thumb are to wear something with movement, and keep the colors earthy. I, personally, love the look of a flowy midi or maxi dress, but switching it up is fine, too, it you’re wanting a more relaxed look.
Let’s be real, the weather is up and down in the Delaware Valley, especially near the rivers. Make sure you bring layers, an umbrella, and an extra pair of shoes, just in case! I do my best to keep an eye on the forecast, but sometimes showers pop up. As long as there is no lightning, and it is still safe to be outside, I am happy to continue your session! Sometimes, we get the most fun and connected photos in unexpected moments.
I know, easier said than done, but again–I am here to help! We are taking maternity photos to showcase your specific journey, so we work to make sure your personality shines. After a day of focusing on you, hopefully, you will feel more comfortable in front of the camera. If not, though, that’s ok! As a lifestyle photographer, my focus is on light posing and creating natural moments with prompts. With prompts, you can begin to forget that you are in front of a camera, and start being in the moment for your maternity photos in Philadelphia.
I hope that these tips help you feel at ease during your session. It is so special to capture photos of your true personality and beauty during such an amazing time. Until next time!
